5th ANNUAL KID’S CANCER BENEFIT

If you missed it, you missed it.  If you made it, you had a great time. We had awesome weather, except for a “little” wind, and we had a great turn out and everyone who attended seemed to go home happy.  Due to the hard work of the SCJR Clubbers and the big hearts of the community and those attending over $5,000 was raised for the families with kids with cancer.

Saturday morning started way too early for members Sharon Yost and Jim Brazell.  They were out shortly after sunrise prepping the poker hand sites to be ready for the anxious folks partaking of the run itself.  The rest of the clubbers in attendance pitched in and set up the tables and tents for the silent auction and got ready for the sign ups.  We always have tremendous publicity starting with the full page ad in RIDE MAGAZINE and a you tube video and  and a front page spread in the Florida Today TGIF Magazine followed by radio ads on popular local radio stations.  But we never quite know how many folks will show up. 

This year’s date was problematic because it was the day all of the Brevard County high schools held their graduations.  But when the dust settled we were pleased to see over 30 out of town jetski folks.  Some from as far away as 150 miles!  In fact, Terry Hobbs, a member of the Tampa Bay Jet Ski Club and the Supervisor of Elections for Polk County, Fl was the winner of the best Poker Hand and won the $200 first prize.  And Terry demonstrated the big heart that PWC folks are known for by instantly kicking back $100 to go to the Kids Cancer Benefit.  Second prize was $75 and third prize was $25.  The winner of the 50/50 got $140.  And there were more t shirts, hats and other goodies given away than anyone could count by master of ceremonies Timmy Vee, a popular local radio personality.

The 2010 Kid’s Cancer Benefit is now history.  A great weekend provided fun, a few tears for the kids, money raised, memories and friendships formed.  All a testament to the vision, hardwork and the big hearts of the Clubbers from SCJR. 

In 2011 the Benefit will move back to its original date, the first weekend in June.
Put it on your calendar, June 4th 2011.  If you are a jetski person and you have a big heart for kids and want to have fun and help raise money for families that are going through the unthinkable of having a child stricken with cancer, then Melbourne, FL is the place you’ll want to be.
