Crystal's Walk & Ride 2010
Crystal's Walk & Ride is a two-part memorial, fundraising event, honoring our special angel Crystal Kabboord, who battled cancer courageously. This event is to honor her and all of our other children who live or have lived with childhood cancer. 100% of the donations raised by your registration or by being sponsored, will provide assistance for our Brevard County children and their families living with childhood cancer.
On Saturday, April 17th, 2010, the first part of our fundraising day will get started at the Old Florida Grill & Oyster House in Cocoa. For a minimum donation of $20, riders on all makes and models of motorcycles are welcomed to participate. Brevard County's Sheriff Department will provide us with an escorted ride for the trip from Cocoa with a parade entrance to Gleason Park at 1:00pm., where live music, raffles, food, drinks and a fun time will be waiting to greet us! Registration starts at 10:00am with the escort leaving at 12:15pm. Come join the motorcyclists on a fun, escorted ride while helping to raise funds and awareness for our local children with cancer.

At 12:00pm, the second part of our fundraising day kicks off at Gleason Park, with registration for the Walk. The Candlelighters of Brevard invite all children and adults to either walk, run, dance, rollerblade, etc., continuously for one hour around the lake at our beautiful Gleason Park in Indian Harbour Beach. Donations that you raise from being sponsored to walk for the entire hour, will provide assistance to our Brevard County families living with childhood cancer.
A Celebration of Life will begin at 1:30 and the Walk will begin at 2:00pm. Food, drink, and raffles will be available for purchase and live music and entertainment for the entire family will be provided during and after the walk. What a great way to get your exercise, enjoy a day of fun and at the same time show your support for our Candlelighter children and their families!

For the past 6 years, with the thanks to my boss, Gary Shiffrin for his idea and allowing me to use it, and the support of Brevard County Schools, I have headed-up a Jean Day for the Candlelighters of Brevard.
Each November/December I invite all schools to set a side a day in which teachers who want to wear jeans to work, would donate $5.00 for that specific day. This year, those schools who participated along with the School Board offices, donated a total of $2,267.00. I would sincerely like to thank them all.

“Ladies Night Out”
Western Fiesta raises more than $13,400!
We thank all who attended our Candlelighters “Ladies Night Out” Western Fiesta. We are very excited to have raised more than $13,400 for our children battling cancer, and their families.
What a fantastic event! The Western Fiesta-themed décor, provided by Pink Avenue, added the perfect touch to this year’s event. Over 200 beautiful ladies showed up in their best western attire for an evening of excellent food, spirits, silent auctions, “Let’s Make a Deal” antics, and great times on the dance floor! To make the night even more complete, Maxine's Salon and Spa provided complimentary soothing massages, chic hairstyles, and relaxing spa treatments for all who attended.
Our evening began with a heartfelt testimony from Candlelighters mom Kari Davis, sharing her child Kyle and their family’s difficult cancer journey, “Unfortunately there are no local oncologists, and we have to travel out of county to Arnold Palmer for every doctor visit, blood work, chemo treatments and procedures. In the past 17 months, we have put 40,000 miles on my vehicle. We were truly blessed to find out about Candlelighters. What a saving Grace they are to our family. They assist us with the daily travel expenses, co-pays, and were even able to get new tires for my vehicle
(thanks to Cocoa Hyundai)..."
Timmy Vee of WA1A then got the party started with lively County music, and encouraged all Candlelighters guests to step onto the dance floor. Line dance instructor Kathy Brackett led the crowd of ladies through a fun series of the latest in Country dance moves.
Our participants became even more energized when Hummer Limo winner Sue Tompkins and her girlfriends arrived to join our fundraiser. What an impressive ride! The limousine prize was generously provided compliments of JJs Hot Rayz.
Our fundraising efforts could not happen without the many fabulous volunteers who give their time and energy for our children. This year, our cowboy hats really go off to them – remarkable ladies raising amazing funds for an amazing cause.

Description:
For the past two years I’ve been Founder and President of the “Give Peace a Chance” Club at Melbourne, Central Catholic High School. Last year, I organized a fundraiser to benefit Darfur, Africa. Long Doggers donated all the wings and the club made close to $1,000. It was such a success, that we did it again this year, except it was to benefit Candlelighters of Brevard. We picked this organization because it was one of the most worthwhile causes in all of Brevard and also because my Grandpa is the president. I knew it was a tough economic time and the people who are benefited by Candlelighters could really use the money. The year was even more successful, raising $1,600!
Sincerely,
Gabby Lilienfeld

Crystal’s Walk & Ride 2009
Our personal experience of losing our little girl to cancer changed our lives. The loss will be forever painful and we miss her everyday. But our belief is that our bodies are not the limits of our existence and like the butterfly, we merely change to a new understanding of who we are. Through our experience, we have found that the greatest joy and delight came from others who wanted to serve and comfort us in our struggle and loss. Finding balance in a place of trouble is the secret to peace. There is no greater method of calming the heart than being of service to another in a time of need. Today we all stand together in a desire to serve children and their families in times of great trouble. The Candlelighters have provided us with a platform for this service and we trust them because of our direct experience with them. They are a local organization and we believe service to others should begin at home. We are honored by each and every one of you who have joined us in this effort to make the Crystal Walk & Ride a success each year. Thank you and may the love and light of the One Infinite Creator be yours today.

Julia's Party for a cause!Date/Time: April 18, 2009, 1:00 pm-4:00 pm
Description:
Our daughter, Julia, was diagnosed with a brain tumor on April 12,2008. Following her 6 hour surgery and 9 days in Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital, she was able to return home. Julia is now a very active 6 year old who loves going to school, playing soccer, dancing and spending time with her family and friends. We are so incredibly blessed. We also know how incredibly lucky we are.
In the months following Julia’s surgery we began to hear from and meet several families with children who were fighting battles that no child should have to fight. It was during this time that we also learned about Candlelighters and what this organization does for these families. We could not wait to help!
After several months of planning, our 1st annual “Julia’s Party for a Cause” to benefit Candlelighters was held on April 18th. Initially, we contacted a handful of friends to see if they would be willing to financially help us with a fund-raiser. They all stepped up and we soon had our initial sponsors! (Stifel Nicolaus, Platt Jacobus Fielding Ville Trial Lawyers, Osman Lincoln Mercury Jeep, Palm Bay Hospital, Collins and Montz Aesthetic & Restorative Dentistry and Dr. Ralph Paylor with Florida Eye Associates.)
We had an incredible committee made up of family and friends that did an amazing job getting the word out and soliciting donations from the community. We had an awesome day filled with delicious food, drinks for all ages, kids games, clowns, music and great weather! We accepted donations during the event and raised just over $5,000.00. We continue to receive donations and I am proud to say that this 1st annual “party” has raised $6,365.00 thus far for Candlelighters!
We are so grateful to ALL of you who supported this event either with your time, your money or your in-kind donation.
See you next year,

Three UCF students from the Spring Semester Cornerstone class raised $376 to benefit Candlelighters of Brevard, Inc.
The event took place at Bunky’s Seafood and Raw bar located in Indialantic. The three students Steven Housman, Colin Quarless, and Amber Hasegawa held a raffle from the donations given from local restaurants, book stores, coffee shops and other business around town. The event was intimate and enjoyable for all that were there, even the two little boys who won a dinner for two at Miyako's and ½ golf lesson!
It was a great day for us all to come together to help make a difference in the lives of a few families. Something we did that we will never forget!

Description:
UCF College Students Helping Kids Fight Cancer!
As a UCF business student we are required to take a class that allows us to experience some real life learning, including participating in a service learning project. When researching various local non for profit organizations one of the team members came across the Candlelighters of Brevard. Her sister has been a cancer survivor for 5 years now, and as you can imagine she was eager to get the whole group as excited as she was about the Candlelighters. We easily came to the conclusion that we wanted to help these local children's families. Our group called ourselves, "UCf College Students Helping Kids Fight Cancer". We chose that name based on the Candlelighters slogan "because kids can't find cancer alone". When we first met with the Candlelighters we had the idea of doing a bowl-a-thon fundraiser to help buy gas and grocery cards for the families. The group hit the pavement with flyers for the event and a goal of raising $2000. We held one small fundraiser at K-mart where we sold a free game of bowling for $1, the $110 raised that day went as the reservation for the lanes for March 21 and the raffle tickets for the drawings we would hold at the bowl-a-thon. After much preperation the big event day had come upon us! We had so much fun at the bowling alley and it was obvious that all who attended did too! We ended up selling 12 lanes!!! Although the event was a success, it still wasn't enough money, so one of the team members who happens to work at the Brunswick bowling alley took it upon himself to raffle off a a bowling ball for the Candlelighters! All together we are honored and proud to say that we raised $1,300!!!!! It might not have been $2000, but we put the Candlelighters name out on the street to some who hadn't yet heard of their amazing mission and not to mention we gained an awesome experience! Thank you Candlelighters for allowing us to partner with you! You guys were terrific and we love you! We would also like to thank the local businesses who gave donations to help make the event more fun: New Image Dentistry, Outback, Carrabas, Chick-fil-a, Starbucks, and we can't forget the Brunswick Bowling Alley! Team members included: Katie Sprayberry, Denny Giles, Lauren Sturgeon, Ruth Martini, Corey Kevella, and Steven Haney.

7th Annual Have-A-Heart Valentine's ExtravaganzaDate/Time: February 14, 2009, 7:00 pm-11:00 pm
Description:
7th Annual Valentine's Extravaganza
Not just an ordinary Valentine’s Day!
Valentine’s Day had greater meaning this year as evening settled in and more than 450 sponsors and guests gathered at the beautiful home of Tom and Charlotte Wienckoski for Candlelighters’ 7th Annual “Have-a-Heart” Valentine’s Extravaganza. One might think in these tough economic times that donations would be hard to come by, but despite the struggles many face, close to $150,000 was raised to help Brevard County children battling cancer, and their families.
The Sponsor Party began from a bit of a different perspective as Robin Carroll, grandmother to Haley Grace Carroll, shared her grandchild’s and family’s steadfast battle against childhood cancer : “…each of our lives is a tapestry woven by the events that we experience throughout our lifetime. I know in Haley’s tapestry there will be a golden thread that weaves throughout it showing the selfless love, care, and devotion that you have shown our Granddaughter in your support of Candlelighters…they’ve been a hand of hope reaching out of darkness…”
A short video tribute, produced by Nicholas Perez, childhood cancer survivor, and his brother, Michael Perez, was played for this year’s sponsors before the Sponsor Reception was brought to a close. The touching video honored many Candlelighters kids and their loved ones to the lyrics, “I want to walk, I want to run, I want to be just like everyone.”
Throughout the evening, sponsors and guests enjoyed great food prepared by Farina’s Creative Catering, champagne & cocktails, refreshing specialty drinks by Jerzee Boys Authentic Italian Ice, and savory coffee by Indian River Coffee. There was great celebration and dancing to music DJ’d by Timmy Vee, and live music performed by Curtis Moore and Steve Massey, with Tim Liscum indoors on the baby grand piano. Cigars provided by The Cigar Factory added one more impressive flair to the evening. Perfect weather allowed this year’s live auction, hosted by WA1A’s engaging Lisa Moldovan, to be held on the lovely pool deck of the Wienckoski home, raising more than $10,000. Up close and personal fireworks filled the clear night sky, bringing the live-auction portion of the Extravaganza to a close. A luxury limo bus fully equipped with optics, oversized flat screen TV and music was provided by JJ’s Hot Rayz Limousine to transport the sponsors and guests to the steps of the Wienckoski home.
The Chinese and Silent Auctions had record-breaking donations of more than 100 unique and amazing prizes for guests to bid on or vie for through ticket sales. Simone Lord, present at this year’s Extravaganza, won the shiny, new 2009 Hyundai Elantra, generously donated by Brevard Hyundai Dealers and the Nelson family.
The Candlelighters organization is grateful and blessed by the generosity it is shown every single year. Sponsorships continue to rise as the close-knit community of Brevard County rallies to raise awareness and support for its children with cancer. Every newly diagnosed child who joins Candlelighters, the kids and families that have been with them for years, and those children who have lost their fight against cancer, continue to be constant motivation and inspiration for Candlelighters and its dedicated supporters.
Candlelighters of Brevard, its children and the “Have-a-Heart” committee extend their heartfelt gratitude to each person who has donated time, in-kind sponsorship, or money.
You make a difference every single day in the lives of Brevard County children battling cancer.
